R&D
A lot of the time, when creating a new illusion for a show or client, is spent doing research and workshopping.
After the first briefing from the show's director explaining what they would like to achieve with the illusion, it's then time to go to the drawing board and try out different methods and ideas that best suit the specific project and environment.
Once the method is decided a 3D drawing or sketch is created to check the dimensions, site-lines and secret workings of the illusion.
The next phase is to build a miniature or full-size prototype which is used to workshop the mechanics and staging of the equipment and performers.
After the final notes are taken from the prototype it's time to build the final version.
Illusions go as small as a hunted deck which moves by itself to a flying car on stage.
